London Porter

A traditional London Porter, black with ruby highlights.

A rich, powerful porter. Four types of malt give a complex coffee and chocolate flavour, which leads to a slightly smoky, dry roasted bitter finish.

The ultimate night cap.

Available in November through to January

Contains barley and wheat gluten

Black. Slight chocolately roasty aroma, some woodyness, cocoa powdery. Med bodied, slight oily texture. Sweet licorice. Smooth roasty, dry herbs in finish. Tasty nice. Easy too.

Was lucky to try this on a tour of the FFF brewery. It had an amazing coffee flavour and strong enough to make up for the lack of caffeine

Cask conditioned at The Harp, Charing Cross, London. Black with cream head. This commenced as it meant to go on with big heavily roasted malt flavours. Deep and heavy on the palate, bitter coffee flavours, some chocolate. Lasts throughout the pint, a bobby dazzler.

Cask at the William Webb Ellis (JDW), Twickenham. Mid black with a good tan head that retains well. Decent lacing ensues. Nose is roast malts, chocolate, vanilla, molasses. Taste comprises roast malts, dark sugars, dark fruits evident, chocolate, molasses. Medium bodied with a slightly oily texture, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Decent - I enjoyed this one!

... Pours dark brown in color with tan head. Roasted malts, some milk chocolate in aroma. Nice. Flavour has mostly some roasted coffee with slight bitter finish, even a bit of herbal/spicynotes in aftertaste. Good, tasty real ale.

Basically black, with a tight spongy head. Cakey creamy chocolate mocha aroma. So cakey in the taste too. Some apple sharpness in the aroma too. Full and smooth palate. Soft carbonation. Drinkability high, covers the 6.8% well. Rich and smooth - definitely worth remembering.
Top tip - mix a small bit of Thornbridge Chiron into this, and it'll blow your mind, as the only thing this is lacking is aromatic hops.
