Milk Stout

A taste of yesteryear brought up to date. An old fashioned milk stout based on an original 1930’s recipe, the sort your Gran used to drink! A blend of pale and roasted malts with East Kent Goldings delivering a creamy smooth sweet stout intensely aromatic in the glass, coffee and liquorice notes with a lingering smoky finish balanced with a hint of sweetness.

Cask at the Hobgoblin, Reading. Black with a reddish tint and a thin tan head; deeply roasted malt aroma with hints of wood smoke and chocolate; dry, with a milky texture, and purple fruit flavours followed by a burst of sharp bitterness, then a dry lactic finish. Excellent.

Cask (Guide Dog, Southampton) - Dark brown, almost black in colour. Roasted malt and coffee in the aroma. Roasted malt and coffee taste with notes of bournville chocolate detected. Nice and smooth and it has a lot of flavour and body for the strength.

Mahogany black with a creamy beige head. Mmmm creamy, beige, I'm Old Greeeeeg!!! Anyway, glorious roasty coffee and milk chocolate malty snout. Very well balanced flavour with all of the above plus some oats, caramel and biscuit hints. More milk chocolate in the finish. Very little hop character. Drinks like a milk mild rather than a sweet stout. Not my thing usually as I'm generally not a fan of anything with lactose added but here it works well.
